Can I visit any restaurants on Bedarra Island?

No, you need to self cater. There is a resort on Bedarra Island that has a restaurant but it's only available for their guests. Conversely, Resort guests are not permitted to travel to your area of the island. This ensures privacy and deters day trippers.

Can I visit Dunk Island Resort?

Dunk Island Resort permits visitors during the day only. Travel is by boat and details are provided at the time of your booking.

Is it possible to do a reef tour from Bedarra Island?

Yes, this can be co-ordinated through Dunk Island Resort. Our caretakers can assist you with this also.

How do you get to Bedarra Island?

Detailed directions on how to get to the island will be provided at the time of booking. The popular option is to fly to Cairns Airport and take a small aircraft flight for 15 minutes to Dunk Island. From there catch a 15-minute boat ride on the 'Beachcomber' fast cat to Doorila Bay (East Bedarra Island). Alternatively you can hire a car from Cairns and take a scenic two-hour drive to Mission Beach, catch the water taxi to Dunk Island and then the 'Beachcomber' to East Bedarra. High flyers can charter a helicopter from Cairns Airport to drop you on the beach at Bedarra Island.

Can I have a boat there?

There are no mooring facilities so a boat would require anchoring at your own risk and also the permission of other owners (Body Corporate).

Is there mobile phone reception?

You will need to take a short walk to the western side of the island where reception is available from most providers (note: Vodafone reception is not always reliable).

Is there a TV/ DVD player/cable/telephone?

Yes we have a television in both the studio and villa and each has a DVD player and receives Austar. There is also a telephone in both the Villa and Studio.

Are there any shops on Bedarra Island?

There aren't shops on the island, all groceries and produce need to be ordered at least two weeks prior to your arrival. Alternatively, for those getting to Bedarra by driving to Mission Beach, there is shopping at the Wongaling end of the beach (where the water taxi departs to take you to the island). Everything you need is here at Wongaling Beach. Shopping comes over by boat with you and our caretakers will be waiting on the beach in front of the house to help you.

Is there a hairdryer in the Villa?

No. Both houses are powered by environmentally friendly solar panels and a back-up generator. High voltage appliances need to be left at home.

What activities can I do on the island?

There is a common area joining all properties and a beautiful lookout - plus two beaches. We have kayaks, snorkelling equipment and basic fishing gear (experts bring your own). Swimming on Bedarra is heavenly!

Will there be other people on the island?

We have our caretakers to assist you while you are there but you will very rarely see other owners as the Villa and Studio are on a 1.5 acre property.

How far is the closest beach?

Fortunately the Villa is on one of the most beautiful beaches on Bedarra known as Doorilla Bay. The second beach is only 200 metres away across the island and is great for snorkelling. Both beaches are utilised by a few property owners but it is rare to see anyone else on the beaches.

How many guests does the Villa hold?

The Villa is the main house and it has 2 bedrooms with king sized beds. The studio has 1 bedroom with a king sized bed + a queen sized day bed.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes we highly recommend you that take out travel insurance.

Are there 'stingers' on Bedarra Island?

Stinger season is from November to April each year. Stingers hug the mainland shores as the water out to the Islands is often too deep and cold for the stingers. As yet, there has not been any stings on Bedarra Island but caution is advised.

When is the best time of the year to go to Far North Queensland?

Australian Winter (May to November) is the best time to be in sunny Far North Queensland, however it is warm all year round
